John T. Greer was in the broadcast booth for each and
every game played by the Gamblers. A veteran of college and high school sports broadcasting, Greer teamed with former
Oilers Head Coach Ed Biles to bring the Gamblers to life on Houston radio stations 104 KRBE FM and 1070 KRBE AM. The
broadcasts were entertaining and expertly done thanks to the exciting play-by-play style of Greer, along with
Biles in the passenger seat to provide insightful color commentary. I had dreamed of hearing these broadcasts for years, but they simply didn't exist. Not on
Google. Not on eBay. Tapes of these radio broadcasts were nowhere to be found -- you'd have better luck finding a
T206 Honus Wagner baseball card at the local thrift shop. Believe me, I spent plenty of time looking for both the Wagner
card and the Gamblers radio broadcasts. Well,
that changed the day I met John Greer. As the 2010 Gamblers Reuinion drew closer, I was put in touch with John and spoke with
him on the phone (and would eventually meet him in person at Dave and Buster's on that glorious June day). Imagine my shock
and joyful elation when John told me that he had saved some personal "air checks" of several games! These
were cassette tapes recorded in the broadcast booth for John's personal use. So now, courtersy of John T. Greer, we are able to step back in time and listen to these Gamblers
memories as they happened. You should be truly amazed at what you are hearing. These clips have waited patiently over
25 years to be transferred digitally and whisked into our ears. Our ears thank you, John.
